Contrary to popular western belief, a snake is not a vile creature or a back stabber. A wily financier, political wizard, theologian, philosopher - the snake is a multi-faceted personality, the most profound thinker and the enigma of the Chinese zodiac.

Armed with an innate wisdom, elegance and natural grace, a snake is an epicurean at heart who loves the finer things of life - fine dining, mellifluous music and good books. A snake is put off by small talk and indolence, but he knows how to keep his opinions to himself and is respected and appreciated for this trait.

Metal snakes have their eyes on the number one spot and are ambitious to the core, uncompromisingly headstrong, independent, determined, worldly wise and cautious to such an extreme degree that they silently insulate themselves against all possible failures.

Water snakes are persuasive, very articulate, insightful, influential and intuitive.

Unlike their elemental counterparts, wood snakes can't protect themselves from danger. They are firm, strong, grounded, highly ethical, generous, and confident, possess good organizational skills, sincere, righteous and share a close bond with near and dear ones.

Fire snakes are adventurous, popular, intelligent, creative, wise, a bit loud, extroverts, communicative, vibrant, and dynamic and like to explore new places or face challenges. They speak their minds openly, repress other people's views and have the capacity to convince that their ideas are superior. This they achieve with their persuasive skills.

Among the elemental snakes, earth snakes are the most relaxed. They are earthy i.e. down-to-earth and practical, organized, disciplined and systematic. They appear more warm-hearted and friendly. Their work ethics, honesty and good sense bring them material satisfaction and prosperity.

Positive Side of Snake Character

Some of the strengths of a snake include kindness, discretion, power of observation, compassion, creativity, a logical faculty, intelligence and the power to enchant. A snake knows how to save money but is not stingy and therefore they are always financially secure. His seductive and charming nature often sends out mixed signals.

He is diplomatic, incredibly smart, hardworking and an introvert by nature. His unpretentious charms and generosity wins him many friends and he can often prove to be a true and valuable friend.

He is blessed with a good judgment and in most cases turns out to be right, even when he relies on his own instincts. His intellectual ability and strong intuitive skills make him a great and reliable partner in a business venture or a successful entrepreneur. The acumen needed to progress and a naturally cautious nature come in handy in this case.

Negative Side of Snake Character

Possessiveness, vanity, a quick temper, jealousy, a fussy, calculating and headstrong nature and tendency to criticize are some of the shortcomings of a snake character. He is wrongly regarded as lazy because of his retiring nature.

His refusal to listen to constructive advice often leads him into unnecessary trouble. A stronger sense of self, self confidence and modesty are some traits lacking in a snake and he needs to develop them.
