Let's face it; you do not want to skip this step only to find you have a home that is making you sick after all the time and expense that went into restoring the rest of the house. Make sure that both you and the professional you hire are perfectly clear about what jobs are to be done, the amount it will cost and how long the job should take (within reason) are things you need to get in writing. Get estimates from other professionals as well.
