Have you ever had that dream? You know the dream. The dream where you show up to work in your sleeping garments – or nothing at all! Thanks to a group of people who wanted to turn this common nightmare into a fun day at the workplace, we now have a wear your pajamas to work day. Yes, there is literally a special day for everyday of the year. Some days are so special they get more then one!

April 16th. This day may be a birthday or an anniversary. Maybe April 16th is a special day for other reasons, but April 16th is officially the “Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day”! April has never been such a fun month. Forget the fact that April 15th is “That Sucks Day”, we now have a day where we are encouraged to slip into a favorite nightie and head out the door to work. While it is a great day in the making, remember, law enforcement officers – and probably your boss for that matter – do not look highly on leaving the house in the nude. Therefore, finding the right PJs has never been quite as important.

My all time favorite has to be the traditional bathrobe over a nice casual set of PJs. This is going to look great, and it will be warm since April still tends to be a cool month in most of the United States. I know I wouldn’t want to go to my workplace in a silken negligee when there is snow out. Brr!

Having fun in the workplace is important. Fun raises team morale and build employee confidence. However, if you are celebrating wear your pajamas to work day, it is suggested you share this with your co workers or you may feel a bit odd being the only person in your PJs. Of course, even if you do celebrate this day as a team, there are some places where this is more acceptable than others. If you work in a coat or jacket storefront would this be acceptable? If you worked in a foundry, would this be acceptable? Following safety procedures always take first base.

When it comes to safety vests, coats, bibs, or coveralls, your protection comes first. Do not negate safety for fun – ever. It is simply a bad idea that can have deadly results. Remember safety always comes first.

With so many people in the workforce, having fun is going to be a great release of anxiety and pressure. Imagine, a board room meeting in your skivvies! What could be more fun? You will definitely set a unique tone that is unmatchable. However, be sure to use your good judgment. There is a time and place for everything. Carry an extra suit or pants and shirt with you to insure you have something professional when it is necessary.

When it comes to releasing some energy, you are making quite a statement if you celebrate the National Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day. Of course, if it doesn’t go well, you can enjoy the next day. April 17th is “Blah! Blah! Blah! Day”.
